Gardens visited of German Trip Fall September 3-15th 2009

Above pictures Top left hand of picture is the Flora Vase which is considered one of the finest garden sculptures in Germany.Top center shows gardeners watering the flowers at the Stadtschloss in Fulda.Next photo-view of the formal gardens with fountains with the Stadtschloss in the background which was the palace of the Prince Bishops of Fulda Bottom shows the Orangery overlooking the formal gardens, the ceilings of it's Apolla Hall has magnificent frescoes from the early 18th century.

I flew from Toronto September 2nd 2009 arriving at Frankfurt airport at 1.30 PM and caught the 14.03 train for Fulda arriving around 4.30 PM. Fulda is a small city, in the state of Hesse about 100 km north east of Frankfurt. It is a historic religous center, being the pilgrimage center for St.Boniface.

One of the oldest buildings is the Michaelkirche dating from the 9th century and patterned after the Church of the Holy Seplecure in Jeurusalem.Across, the street stands the baroque 18th century Basilica which replaced the largest church north of the Alps which was started under Charlemange in the days of the Holy Roman Empire of the 8th century AD.
Fulda's rulers were Prince Bishops whose elaborate palaces and formal gardens make Fulda a lovely city to visit.
